There are many varieties of lime found all over the world, but the most common are Persian seedless and Key Limes.
Limes are highly sensitive to cold weather and are grown exclusively in tropical climates. Because the Florida-based U.S. lime industry no longer exists, imports account for 100 percent of lime consumption in the United States. Mexico is by far the leading exporter of fresh limes into the United States with supplies augmented from Guatemala and Colombia.
